About Us

The Royal Danish Embassy to Somalia handles affairs related to Somalia and has one of Denmark's biggest country programmes. Danish Ambassador Steen Sonne represents Denmark in Somalia.

Denmark has two offices in Somalia and Somaliland:

Programme Office Mogadishu

In Mogadishu has an office and accommodation at the EU Diplomatic Compound. The purpose of the office is to strengthen the strong partnership between Denmark and Somalia. This includes the fight against extremism and the terrorist movement al-Shabaab, and to support human rights and not least women's rights. It includes enhancing Danish development portfolio, creating economic growth and jobs - and thus contributing to societies that people do not flee from, but instead return to. The office is apart of the European Union Diplomatic Compound of Mogadishu within the “Green Zone”. This space is shared with other EU delegations and EU member states.

Programme Office Hargeisa
The Danida Programme Office in Hargeisa became operational in August 2012. The purpose of the office is to strengthen the implementation and monitoring of the increasing Danish development portfolio for Somaliland, Puntland and South Central. The Danida Programme Office refers to the Danish Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya. The office has close working relationships with a host of other institutions and organizations, including relevant partners in the three areas of Somalia that cover Somaliland and Puntland. Examples of these are the Somaliland Ministry of National Planning and Development and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, other national authorities and partners, and international and national NGOs.

Kindly contact Head of Office Mathias Kjaer ([email protected]) for further information on the programme office in Hargeisa.
